No. Don't disconnect anything. I clip mine on the ground post on the leading edge of the driver's front fender, and one on the positive jump post underhood, plug the tender in the wall. I have never even seen my actual battery, and it stays 100% charged all winter with zero issues. BTW, My car is a 2010, and has been done this way every winter.
