Ok.. not sure I can explain it correctly... BUT here goes...
Your phone part and the media player require separate pairing... IIRC, set your stereo to AUX input then hit the stereo's menu button... i believe there is a Bluetooth menu in there... you can then pair up your droid there. I stream Pandora through my Droid... very cool!
