I am not going to tell you something I cant prove. I dont know.

IMHO I would expect it to be just as good if not better than any other method of break in would deliver.

Thats a really good idea. Now I need to find one here around town before I change the oil and install the complete American Racing Headers and exhaust system.

I will do my best to get the thing pulled.

is this "computer reset" something that can be done easily by a noob like me, or is this complicated, like remapping fuel injection etc. ?

Thanks,

not complicated at all! Just read up on it in this thread and follow the directions. Some guys leave them unplugged for long durations (hours) to make sure the PCM channels that the fuses deliver power to are cleared.

I'm kinda freaked out. i want the max performance and max life out of the engine. oh by the way it is the 6 cyl.
Just drive it with the throttle not the cruise control, slow down and pass as much as possible. Hell, you have to have some fun while your driving home don't you! Dont leave it to lug and drone away down the highway on cruise control for hours on end. Vary the throttle position and take some exits and on ramps. lots of them. I always slow down at the bottom of the on ramp and nail it so I can get a good hard load all the way up to 80mph. With my V8 I wait at the bottom of the on ramp and when a car passes me I nail it just to see how fast I can catch him. Its just for fun and it helped break in the engine.

When would be a good time to change oil and filter? Also I would be doing this with an automatic.

Car should be fully warmed (~10 minutes) at idle before starting after cool down.

1) 0-50 miles : Dead Stop/Full Throttle / Shift to Neutral at 80 mph.
2) Let it cool down for 4 hours
3) 50-80 miles: Dead stop/Full Throttle/Shift to neutral at 80 mph
4) Let it cool down over night
5) 80 – 130 miles: Dead stop/Full throttle/shift to neutral at 80 mph
6) Let it cool down overnight
7) 130-180 miles: Dead stop/Full throttle/shift to neutral at 80 mph
8) Try to repeat until 500 miles.
9) Change oil/ oil filter.
10) Reset ECU with OBD II reader.
I guess you could use the "exact" break in recipe but that's not exactly what I was trying to do.

I am using Amsoil 0-30 Synthetic and oil filter after the break in. I am waiting till 1200mile or so. That will be about this coming Monday! Seven days and 1200miles. yea, you can say I am driving the hell outof it.

By the way, it just keeps performing a little better all the time. In SPORT shift mode it will flat ass get with it. It really feels good. Cant wait for the headers and loudmouth IIs to get here.

The thing i wana know (Darin) is how many time do you change the oil and oil filter between 0-500-1000 miles???
Since it was Mobil 1 from the factory and does not break down like a standard non detergent break in oil, I left it it for a full 1000miles +. I will change at about 1200mile. If it was a break in oil I would have changed it three times by now.

No danger at all. Doesn't hurt a thing. I wait until the car has dropped to below the speed limit in the area I am at before I shift back into drive.

All day long I have been taking everyone in my family for "OH SHIT" rides. I love my wife screaming and giggling in the passenger seat as I call out the speeds,
40-50-60-70-80-90-100mph then let out of it. Very few people have been in a true 13.30 second street car. This car is flat ass fun! In "SPORT" mode the car will turn the tires through first for about ten feet then hooks in second and just motivates. I will get a video as soon as possible!

I cant wait for the tuner to get here so I can make the trans shift like it should. Torque management from the factory sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
