Manufacturers have competition too...other manufacturers. There would still be discounts. Letting consumers order new cars online wouldn't get rid of dealers. There would still be people that need parts, servicing, warranty work, used car buyers, and people who simply would rather buy a new car off the lot so they can have it right away.
