My opinion on Alpine and their KTX-CMO unit.
I've been on vacation for a week and have spent a lot of time getting myself better educated on the Alpine -vs- Scosche unit. Personally I like the look of the Alpine unit and I contacted them back in October about the unit. Their phone service and ability to contact them is nothing short of CRAPPY!
You cannot email them anything, it says right on their page where it gives their email address that they won't respond to your email...WTF? So I started calling their phone number and follow the phone prompts. You got through all of the prompts to get to the right dept, then you hit 4 to talk to a customer service person and you get "we are sorry but due to unusual call volume please hang up and try again at another time". After probably 8 times calling them I finally got transferred to someone.
I talked to guy and asked him some questions regarding Onstar, and XM connectivity. He was competitant and answered every question I had, until I asked him when the units would be shipping. He said there has been some problems but they should be cleared up by mid November. I have since tried to call 6 times and have gotten the dreaded "hang up and try again at a later time" BS!
I stopped by the 2 largest car electronic installers in my area and neigher of them have any high regard to Alpine. One guy told me they only have like 4 different style head units available. How can a company like Alpine only have 4 different style Alpine head units. Both electronic installers told me that Alpine quality has gone down severely the past 4-5 years. Warranty repairs have taken more than 8 weeks to get back.
The fact that it's almost impossible to contact Alpine is the first red flag to me. Then hearing from the people that distribute and install the product say they have had bad experience with Alpine have made my decision to go with the Scosche unit.
