Loss of hydraulic pressure will cause the slave cylinder to loose travel. Clutch can't fully release the disk when you push down on the pedal and that makes getting it into the next gear difficult. The synchronizer can't do it's job if the clutch disk is still being dragged around at the motor rotation RPM. So it "grinds".

Let them fix it and you should be fine.
