It's my understanding, that the original spring loaded design was replaced with a solid coupler for a while, then they went back to a spring loaded design, but the second spring design was also packed with grease/lube.
Since the entire SC assembly is considered a field replaceable unit that is manufactured by Eaton, I doubt that there would be a GM TSB that would show/list the inner details of the coupler.
That info would probably have to come from Eaton, not GM.
