It's technically not cash-back more like another rebate/cash off. Yes thats for the more recent cards like in the last 12 or so years. The older ones did not have a specific vehicle limit other than 3500. You earned up 500 a year for up to 7 years a max of 3500 you could use on any vehicle GM made besides SAAB. The new 5% just allows you to get to the current 1000 quicker. Plus if you go over that you'll have for future vehicles and they never expire I believe. Also I beleive you may be able to convert your 3% account to the 5% if you have an existing one at the very least you would be able to open a new account and transfer your earnings from the old. There may be some conversion rate involved.
