You didn't do anything bad.
I know what you're talking about. It does it to me too. But there's an easy fix.
When you go and tap the search bar it'll come up, but when you start typing it'll disapear. When it disapears your keyboard is still up, correct? Tap the blue button at the left hand corner of the keyboard that says "Done" and hit the search bar again and start typing. That should fix it. Let me know if it works.
