A front tow hook is required by most sanctioning bodies. Furthmore, the purpose is to save body parts should you ever have an issue on the track or strip. The track workers are trying to get your car off the racing surface as quickly as possible and they don't care if your bumper is removed or other parts are damaged in the process.
