I can only give my opinion on this...I got my "foam gun", but it's not a Gilmour or anything like that. It does the job for me and foams up pretty good. I think I got mine for $25 or so. Here's a pic of it in action:
Not so sure that this question boils down to a "your preference" answer. But maybe
more foam equals better lubricity for dirt and things.
