Had this thread in the back of my mind, so just to experiment I threw in one of my 70 lb bags of sand into the trunk before my commute. I'm still running 275 Pirelli summer tires up front and 275 Nitto 555's on back. I've seen temps as low as 31 degrees.
Car felt more planted, had less of that floaty feeling.
Only reason I have not thrown on my snow tires is that I'm hoping to do one more big mod this year, and then hit a track, run a number, and then put on the snows.
