Using a toothpick gives you more control over where the paint goes. It will take some time, but you fill-in the section little by little to bring it up to being flush. You can do it all in a day, but you may want to go slower and take 2-3 days and get a better result. If you used the brush that comes with the touch-up paint, you end up adding paint to the surrounding areas as well which defeats the purpose.
