I'm digging this thread, as I own the V-6 LFX.
Seriously though, the 60 degree DOHC DI engine is really a lot more than the 90 degree OHV SS V-8 with 2 cylinders chopped off. Ford did that with its modular motors, it saved them money but was not that spectacular, the engine size/HP ratio was pretty linear as I recall.
BUT what about a 4.6-5.3 liter V-6 LFX? That would be pretty exciting I think if they get the cylinder bore/stroke length right. What I am really impressed with the LFX motor is the flat torque curve, and "area under the curve". It almost reaches peak torque at a very low rpm. Torque makes the car easy and fun to drive around town, and we still have that magic 4500-6800 things get exciting HP range. I really dig this car. That said, if I won the lottery an SS or more likely ZL1 would be in the driveway tomorrow. My daughter could have my car, the wife an SS and a ZL1 for me. Also, without a manual I would not like the car as much. The manual is a key part of my driving experience.
