Cool cake

On Wednesday morning just outside the General Motors display at the Javits Center, a crew with the TLC cable show “Cake Boss” struggled to unload a 2,000-pound cake molded into the form of the Bumblebee Camaro from “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” The third installment in the Transformers series opens on July 1.

The cake, and the dozens of parents and children waiting for its arrival by the G.M. display, were being taped for a coming episode of the show. Joey Faugno, part of the family that owns Carlo’s Bake Shop of Hoboken, N.J., that made the cake for the show, broke down a bit of the cake’s construction.

It took about four days to make, and consists of vanilla pound cake with butter-cream frosting. And here’s a tip for at-home bakers: Rice Krispies treats were inserted to bind the cake at critical flex points.
