The question here is did they do it because they always used to or was it the result of actual beck-to-back-to back testing?
At the pointy end of competition it makes more sense to chase even the tiny potential performance improvements. Back where the majority of us are, driver consistency is typically not good enough for the really little tweaks to matter, even though it may look good or feel good to do them.
