Too lean. The more you spray the lower the AFR needs to be. Alot of people don't do this and end up with a lean backfire on a fairly large shot.

Spraying at too low of an rpm.

Advancing the timing during dialing it in passes without rich ending the mix. If you run it and the AFR is good then you decide to add a couple degrees of timing back in, it will then be lean.

Bad intake design. Not really a concern for the LS based engines.
