Painting engine cover, fuse box.

So after reading and seeing tons of people painting their covers. I decided i would give it a try. I went to autozone and got dupli-color matching paint. I've spray painted many objects so i know the technique, well...

I cleaned the fuse box with dish soap, dryed it off then used isopropyl alcohol to finish it off and i let it dry for 20 minutes. After fighting with the broken nozzel that came with my can. Put a new nozzel on and off i went...

One coat... 10 min wait... Second coat... 10 min wait... Third co.. Wth? Cracking? ok.. What did i do wrong? So i just peeled it all right off and i'm scratching my head. I see most didn't sand or prime.. So what's the deal? It looked so good! Can anyone help me, or come paint these for me! Lol
