My buddy has a 74. I dont know the original hp #s, but i do know that we did some minor stuff to it (cam, intake, full exhaust..., mostly bolt ons) and this mother effer screamed! Its all in how you (or your son) see it. Honestly, I think if you replace the pans, get a paint job, and give it a little more power (dont forget tio rebuild the trans.) it would be well worth it.
