Oh and hey, just curious, since the K&N's not the intake of choice, what is and why?

There are much better choices out there. I could tell you which ones are good but then you'd just have to take my word for it. Search this section for best CAI and you'll get all the recommendations you care to read. At the end, it's you that has to buy it. Just know that all CAI's aren't created equal and just because they look the same on the outside doesn't mean they are the same. There's a science to making a GREAT intake. Anyone can put a filter on the end of a tube but to make it better than all the others, it takes science and R&D. Mine is listed in my mods and it's been proven to be as good or better than any of them.

Gotcha, thanks axis. Guess I'll be doing some homework and possibly selling and buying a new one... lol.

I believe Jannetty is in CT.

I've had 3 cold air systems in my car. They all helped.

I am using the New Era OTR setup now. It's Over The Radiator, so you tilt back the radiator. I like it.

For a sealed side mounted box, I liked the CAI system. No engine roar, nice looking setup.

Pure bang for buck I'd get something used.

That is the absolutely BEST thing you could do. So many people just take someones word for it and many times end up disappointed. Do your homework, narrow your choices down, then get what looks good to you and fits your budget. If you have specific questions about a part in particular, feel free to post a question or PM someone you trust.

That will add the deep rumble you are after without disrupting conversations or drawing unwanted attention.
Love my Solo high flow cats with the stock exhaust. Great sound when revving it up, but, OEM quiet while cruising and you'll get ~15 rwhp. Get a Range AFM and a CAI with scoop and you will have a different car that is quiet when you want it and have great sound and performance when your on it. No tune required. I would contact a well respected vendor like Apex.

I'd like to see an independent test that shows a catback picks up 15rwhp. I find it unlikely.

I was referencing Apex Chase's comment on the Solo high flow cats. I edited my post.

Can anyone help?

If 40 something is old....damn, I might be your dad. If you can't name 4 songs by the Dave Clark 5, you're not old. If you didn't get sent home from school when President Kennedy was shot, you're not old. If you never bought ethyl gasoline for under a quarter per gallon, you're not old. If you never legally drank alcohol under the age of 21, you're not old.

Gotcha. I say go all or nothing. Long tubes and tune are the best bang for the buck. Great HP/$ and sounds better than stock.

The problem is that it's a automatic so you have to worry about severe drone at highway speeds because of cylinder deactivation not that a auto is a bad thing. I have a 2011 2SS/RS M6 with muffler delete Doug Thorley and it sounds great and I am 50 years old. The Borla S-Type was on the car when I bought it and it is louder than stock but not loud enough for me. Like other people have said unless you replace the exhaust from the engine back no real horse power gain will happen but I suggest that you can also install a cold air intake which will help it breath easier.

Anything SOLO exhaust is good..

My best advice is go ahead and spend abit more money if you're able.. Get a set of Headers, hi-flow cats, SOLO exhaust setup, and look up Jannety Racing (if you're in that area.. the guy has done A LOT of work on this site) and have him tune it for you.. I don't know you but I promise it will make you smile larger than a school boy! 8)
