Roll Cages, Safety First, Vendors Care

Mods, I know there is a vendor review section but I feel this safety related information needs to get out to more folks... can we leave this here for a few days...

Folks...

Recently there was an incident on a race track involving one our Camaro5 Family members...

The purpose of this thread is to relay the information related to safety equipment...

This incident involved a blown motor at the top end of the race track (over 100 MPH) leading to a loss of traction, and after sliding around a bit and steering the car back to his own side of the track, the driver hit a guardrail and got thrown into the air with the end effect of rolling the car numerous times and glancing off a tree... This could have been tragic, but due to his well constructed and properly installed roll bar, his multi-point safety harness, helmet, and racing jacket, he only suffered minor injuries and was out of the car and walking around when the first people other than on-star arrived... There was no passenger compartment structural intrusion.

The car was totaled...the owner has a replacement car already.

TrackSpec Motorsports and RPM Roll Bars Care, and are making a great offer... Please consider this in you list of modiffications as an important item... Whether you get a cage from one of our vendors, or from your local builder or whatever source... Please Do Consider the value....

All that follows is a quote from John at Trackspec Motorsports...

Incredible, just found this thread and was completely floored by the video. It truly puts the real world into perspective and how this amazing sport can have very serious consequences.

Chris, the Trackspec team watched the video together and are so grateful that you walked away from this accident with little to no physical injury. It only reinforces the importance of the safety equipment planning that you performed on your build. Kudos to you on the cage, harness, and helmet since we beleive it truly saved your life or at least saved yourself from serious bodily injury. You built the car to handle the increased power and level of danger correctly, and walked away from it to tell us about it. We are glad you are ok and as others said, you are irreplacable. I ve seen 30mph accidents with a whole lot worse passenger outcomes than yours.

All too often we talk about how many RWH's our cars make but seldem do we talk about what we are doing to increase the safety in these very powerful cars. And with 600RWHP just a maggie away, its become almost too easy!

Due to Chris's accident, Trackspec Motorsports and RPM Roll Bars have all 2010 Camaro NHRA legal bolt in roll cages 15% off to further push safety in these cars with free shipping on Chromoly Cages. SHoot me a PM to discuss further if interested.

Rob and Justin's (Turbo99) Cages are in coating and should be on their way to their shops shortly.

Have fun and stay safe guys.

John

Can't argue with that. Today at Lebanon there was a car the blew a head gasket or the engine, shot across the track, hitting the car in the other lane before flipping over the wall. And right on the other side of that wall was me driving back on the return road. I didn't know until later what happened but when I looked in the rearview all I saw was smoke. I believe Ted's son was also a car or two behind me on the return road. It's pretty crazy to see it happen but after I saw that Camaro flip I tighten the crap out of my five point!

Yup, my builder said when the harness is so tight you can barely breathe, it's almost tight enough... If you are ever in an accident, you'll appreciate it...

If you plan to track your Camaro, you really should get one of these. I know that some of our members think that they only need this sort of protection once they get to the serious modifications under the hood, but the truth is that you trap over 100 mph right now in stock Camaros. That means that this incident could be repeated. Don't let this car be the end of you. Get a roll cage, harness, helmet, and fire-retardant jacket.
