E85 ?
Anyone running E85 in their hotrod? A couple of pros & cons would be nice or cautions or recommendations.
Thanks |

Required Fuel (ZL1 Only)
If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine (VIN Code P), use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. For best performance, use premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 93. You can also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, but the vehicle's acceleration could be slightly reduced, and a slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred to as spark knock, might be heard. If the octane rating is less than 87, a heavy knocking noise might be heard when driving. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible. Otherwise, you could damage the engine. If heavy knocking is heard/ when using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher, the engine needs service. Sent from a large Hammer.

It says less then 87 and it can damage the engine, I believe that will affect your performance and the knocking might also.

Since it is very hard to get a good octane level and ZL1 is also not listed as a E vehicle you are probably asking for trouble.

Sven, I'm pretty sure this man is talking about upgrading with supporting mods to E85. I don't think he's just going to dump E85 without modifications.

Greg, you beat me to it, thank you for posting truth about E85. I believe the main requirement is going to be larger injectors (ID1000's?). Supporting mods to be a boost-a-pump and a tune. Keyword there is beleive... I've only seen one person on here convert their car to E85 but I can't remember who it was. It would probably be a good idea to contact a shop that has done E85 conversions. Check with Vengeance Racing and other shops on whats required. This is something I am also considering but I'm not quite ready to make that change, I'll be wanting two tunes I can load onto my ECM. One for 93 Octane for everyday use and one for the E85 for Racing.

Watch out for octane ratings for E85, they are rarely accurate.
