Called dealer today to find out what grade of fuel they put in my camaro. He told me that they put 87 octane in all there cars even the corvette. I now have 93 octane in the car but still seems a little sluggish. Does anyone know how long I should unhook the battery for to get a complete reset of the computer?

LS engines are pretty tight when new, give it at least 500 to 1000 miles to loosen up a bit. Use 92/93 octane of course. IMO, you don't need to reset the computer. It learns as you drive.

Is it sluggish according to a stopwatch, or according to your general "feel"? These cars are deceptively fast. 90 feels like 70, 70 feels like 55, 55 feels like 40, 40 feels like 20...

My current vehicle has 150hp and 185lb/ft torque. Anything will feel fast compared to my lead boat. you guys are lucky to even have something that does 0-60 in under 10 seconds

I had premium in mine off the bat. Expect the engine to loosen up after 3-500 miles.

The car has 600 miles on it now. It is not broken in yet but I just thought it would help to reset since they put 87 octane it. May help the car learn a littlte quicker.

Do not reset anything yet. You should really get it up to around 800-1000 miles and change the oil. Then try to rock her and let us know.

Hmmmmm, I wouldn't know how that felt.
Do some timed runs and see how it checks out. |

Thanks I am going to change the oil @ 1000 miles. I have been driving her pretty rough already. That in mind I have taken the RPMs to 6000 in 1st and 2nd quite a few times but when the oil gets changed its hammer time.

pulling the battery cable won't do anything for "resetting" the computer map tables.
They are adjusted by driving the vehicle and the computer compensating and adjusting for a boatload of variables. |

I just thought it may help to reset the computer. I will wait and see how it runs after a 1000 miles.

I was talking to a "very reliable source", known to most on this board this weekend about this exact subject and he mentioned that it could take a little longer than one might think for the computer to "re-learn" from the new, higher octane - perhaps even 1 to 2 weeks.Be patient... and tell your dealer that the money he's saving by putting cheap gas in his caras is false economy - especially when he has to deal with complaints such as, "Why is my car so much slower than I expected?!?". Somebody's gotta spend the time dealing with the customer and time is money... not to mention the potential for the customer getting handed a load of B.S. because somebody doesn't know the right answer. Best regardSS, Elie
