Odd sound in my 2SS while turning
I traded from a 2LT to a 2SS. I never heard this on my V6 model, but on this car...the V8...I hear an odd noise when turning. It's almost sounds like the tires are rubbing/groaning on the road. This is only at low speed when turning...such as backing up out of the driveway or parking stall...or turning in a parking lot as I move forward at about 3-5mph.
Is this rubbing/groaning from the front end area (maybe tires) normal for the V8 models? Like I said...I never heard this in my V6 model. thx

I have the same noise issue on my SS. I did some research and it seems as though the clutch plates in our rear end is the culprit. Changing the rear end fluid with Gm rear differential fluid and the additive should get rid of that noise. On my to do list here soon.

If you are hearing a gripping or tire scrub sound from the rear tires, say hello to the posi.
Normal, go do some burn outs and have fun. If you are hearing mechanical sounds like clicking then try changing the fluid.

Thanks ya'll. No clicking...just a rubbing type sound. Wish there was a way to type out what it sounds like. I had no idea it would make that type of sound, so it worried me a bit.

I don't know if the TSB applies to your year model, but your description sounds a lot like what my car had. They had to replace the axle seals and fluid per a TSB and the noise went away. It would only happen backing out of parking spaces and doing slow turns through a parking lot. I took it to the dealer and drove a few donuts at 3-5 mph to enhance the sound.

I have the same issue on my car. Weird sound like tires rubbing when you turn either direction. Most noticeable slow speeds turning in parking lots. I scheduled service for this Thursday. I read about the tsb which I thought was just for earlier model years.

I had a full differential replacement at 3000-3500(can't remember) miles then at 14,000 miles or so I had to have the seals replaced with the upgraded fluid...apparently they'll leak if you just add the new fluid

If it's consistent as to when it occurs (and you can make the car do it), take it to your dealer and have them check it out.

Hub/wheel bearing
Hello,
I hear the same noise in my 2ss vert. It is an occasional noise, at low speeds is when I hear it. Mine is on the right side. I believe it is the hub\wheel bearing. If you hear it while turning right, then its the left side. If your turning right, then its the left side. I recently took my car in for the noise but they couldn't find it. Next time im going for a ride with the tech so I can point it out. Here is one video, but you can you tube wheels bearing and a tone of video will come up. Let me know if this helps. Chris |

I'm almost 100% positive you're going to need the seals and fluid change. It's rather common and I dealt with it for a very long time.

Some what helpful, but I have small sounding slamming that goes on the right side of the quarter panel when I turn, sometimes. Was wondering if anyone else has heard a noise like that?

Wow! Great info. Thanks. Do I tell the dealer there is a TSB on it or does this go under my extended warranty?
