Battery tester Ancel ba101

why would I get "good battery" when taken in trunk and "replace" when taken under hood? Both tests 12.6 volts, but CCA very low under hood. I've read a lot of posts on slow cranking and bad grounds on these cars. I have added a ground, engine to chassis in the last few years. Any idea! Thanks in advance P.S. Don't drive much anymore, but still love these cars. Also keep on noco 5 tender.

Noticed a little slow at times, but still starts. Reason, I was checking battery health.

The correct way is to check the battery condition directly on the battery.

It sounds like you have wiring issues between battery and under the hood.

Did not want to hear that, but I was thinking the same thing. I'm up in age and cannot do much anymore and never liked anyone messing with my car. Just taking a drive once in a while make me feel better. May try to add another ground when weather gets warmer. Thanks everyone

This. I remember reading somewhere where the 2010 model year SS's had an issue with the battery cables that run from the trunk up to the under hood connections that somewhere along the line the cables were being compromised by rubbing on the chassis/body along the line. Just a thought. And they are a PITA to replace from what I read..

I checked today and the 2010 made in 2009 where the one that had that recall. Only about 1200 or so had that issue. Mine was made in late 2010 and only had the key recall, which I will never do. Thank again for your thoughts.

Yes sir, you are welcome. Good luck. Plus you have to remember one thing, when you test a battery AT the battery, you get direct voltage, when you check it 15 or so feet away from the battery at the ends of the cables under the hood, you will lose some voltage reading due to the resistance of those cables, and will show less, so as pilot said, always check at the battery, not under the hood.
