V6 Oil FIlter

Anyone change their own oil folks?

I changed mine last weekend, and noticed something about the filter that was a little surprising to me. I bought a bunch of K&N cartridge oil filters for the LLT. When I tooks the OE filter out and looked it over, I noticed that the writing on the metal part of the OE and the KN appeared to be identical. Same font, same English and French, same numbers.
Do you think 3Chevy put K&N oil filters in at the engine factory, or does the same company make them for both GM and K&N?

Just remeber when you change your oil to open the oil filter canister first before you undo the plug. Reason being is that the canister does hold a little oil in the canister, so if you drain the oil then the filter and but the 6 quartes in you'll be a little over.

It is the easiest filter I ever changed & I changed a lot of them.
By having the filter on the TOP of the engine makes it VERY EASY to change, no oil runing anywhere....

I have a Lexus with a canister type filter BUT it is on the bottom of the engine and it's a real mess to change it worst filter I ever changed...

it came from the factory with an AC delco filter and good luck on finding one at your local advance or auto zone. I got mine at my local chevy dealer for 6 bucks and i went with mobil 1 full synthetic. I hear the CTS comes from the factory with synthetic and i figured it would be best. Another thing, anyone notice that the oil life meter is a little off? At 3000 miles my meter said i was at 70 something percent. I looked at the manual and it said change oil every 3000 miles and the computer was way off. Can anyone explain that?

The oil life monitor bases its calculations on "engine revolutions and engine temperature, and not on mileage. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change is indicated can vary considerably." The manual only says to change the oil at 3000 miles if the monitoring system is accidentally reset.

I am probably going to use the Mobil 1 0W-30 Advanced Fuel Economy since it meets the Chevy - GM 4718M (Corvette spec) requirements. I have been using the 0w-20 in my Ford for around 2yrs and it does work, plus I talked to Mobil 1 and the tech said that it is safe to use up-to 5000mi without a change. I put the link below:
