oil change

hey guys i am going to get my first oil change this week. i am from NYC and bought the car @ Paramus NJ but i want to service it somewhere in the city, any one can share some info where to go? i am from queens and HB Chevrolet is not too far any one any experience with them?

Also what oil should go in?, how often and stuff like that On my other car's i always used synthetic oils and changed it every 3500 miles, and this is my 1st new car and i want to do it the right way. I know most of you here know better than some dealers from posts i read before so please share your knowledge.

( i have a 2ss , my dealer told me to use 87 gas and go change the oil when the car tells me to and i have 3k miles on it now and about 60% oil life left)

PS: I am at work and didn't have the time to do a quick search so please don't me , and i want to make an appointment today

Thank you

Your dealer is wrong on the gas, 93 is what I used in mine and what the car was built to run on to get optimal performance. You can use 87 but the car will be lacking in power.

5W-30 Mobile1 Synthetic is what I run for oil per the owners manual.

do not put anything less than 91 in that tank unless it's an emergency

Even the owners manual says use premium fuel, idk why a dealer would recommend otherwise...

I concur... except where I live 91 is as high of octane gas as I can get, agree on oil...had my 1st change last Saturday... (I can find non-ethanol here at one station in my area, there are 2 others in the metro...but too far to drive)

A '11 SS takes a PF48 oil filter and 8 quarts of Dexos oil.

Use premium fuel, at least 91, i use 93...its recommened and will keep the engine cleaner and running the power its supposed to. Use Mobil Synthetic people have listed here.

Where in Queens are you? I'm located in Rockaway Beach, NY, southern Queens.

And not to be confused... Mobil 1 is Dexos certified .... had long talk with dealer Saturday b/c the other service people said I had to go with the GM Dexos, but he insisted he got a bulletin that said the SS takes Mobil One, the V6's take the regular GM Dexos.... 8 qts though... not going to like the 2nd oil change price (1st was free)

Another thread someone said they were charged around $100, my dealer says in the $80 range... he put the sticker on the windshield (pulled it off right away) for 3000 miles, however told me no problem going 6K with Mobil One... he also said buy the Mobil One anywhere else, and they will put it in and save me some $$$ too.

From what i read before in different post it you pull out fuse #5 and 20(not sure if i remember correct) for couple hours to reset the air/fuel ratio mix to a hight octane (some issue with Chevrolet cars not doing this by it self other words if you put 1 gas tank of 87 run it empty than 93 fuel the car still mixes it as 87 because it didn't recognize the 93 octane fuel the mix ratio is saved for 87 still after the pull it resets and relearns which ratio to use) something like that from what i understood and there was a big difference on v6 engines after the fuse pull

i didn't try it out yet but will do so this week
