Vent Removal

Anyone remove these vents(red circle in pics)? Do they just pop out using something like a panel puller? I have a pod from Areoforce that replaces this vent and I would rather not snap the stock one if at possible(or mess up the dash).

Im not sure, but those gauges are bad ass!

Look in the picture, you see the panel that is popped off on the left side? Take that off and you should be able to get your fingers behind the vent to see if there are any clips or screws.

I have the panel off, but there's a somewhat stubborn vent tube that's not very movable(at least from the first look) and it blocks access to the back of the vent.

Damn, just bought aeroforce gauges and that pod. Should be tomorrow or Friday. I thought the gauge clipped to the vent. Didn't know it replaced it.

Edit: vent comes out from the top. I just popped mine out with a small screw driver.I also took off the fuse panel (panel that's off in the picture). Not sure why that is off, there's no way you can get to that vent by that panel. Too much hard plastic and the AC tube blocks it pretty well also.

I am curious how the wire to the OBD2 is hidden for a clean look

The wires are ran internally inside the pod. The top pod has like a 1/2 inch hole in the back which dumps into the bottom pod. The bottom pod has a 1/2 inch hole that dumps into the vent.

I was planning on using a step-up bit to drill like a 1/2-3/4 inch hole into the side of the vent tube leading up to the vent. Then fishing the wires down from the pods and out the vent tube. I'll plug up the hole with something(?) so the vent tube isn't dumping cold out of the side of the tube where my wires will be coming out.

Oh, I also had to come up with an elaborate way to put in my boost guage as the pod is not deep enough. Digital gauges might have more room in the back of the pods, but my analog bottomed out. The boost connections on my gauges use compression fittings and the fittings do not play well with this pod. I have a thread in the Forced Induction V8 on my attempt to get the gauges to fit.

The vent pops off from the front. I used a panel puller and just pried up the front and it lifts right out. I ended up using a 7/16 drill and drilled up into the vent tube from the bottom(just remove side panel covering the fuse box). Still had to do some filing of the hole to slip the AF guage wire plug through.

Note to future users of this pod: I ran into a lot of diffuclty running the the boost tube and all the wires and fittings into this pod set up. I used Autometer gauges which might be longer than other gauges, but it was a royal PITA to get them to fit. Almost freaked out when I finally got the gauges to seat in the pods, I had about an half inch of boost gauge fitting sitting below the vent and when I went to put the pod back in I couldn't get the fitting pass the dash to snap the pod in place. A lot of swearing and some pulling and yanking on dash parts it finally went in. It's a great product, but if you have a lot of stuff to run into the pod, be ready to get creative.

How much is the pod, where do you get one and what size gauges do you put in it?

$129 for the dual pod. They have a single pod for $75. The pod uses 2-1/16" gauges.
