This video is actually explaining how the ZL1 engine block is honed using deck plates to simulate cylinder heads being torqued on the block.
When you torque the cylinder heads and main caps onto the engine block it causes the cylinders to distort, so if you were to hone the block without deck plates and the main caps installed the cylinders would measure round and straight until you assembled the engine. Once you installed the heads and main caps the cylinders would no longer be round and straight. So to prevent this from happening they simulate the engine as if it were assembled while they hone it by using deck plates. Another thing we do while honing is to pump hot honing oil through the cooling jackets to simulate running conditions while honing. We bring the whole block up to around 180 degrees during honing. |

....outstanding, these motors should be close to most of the blueprint specs because of the dilligence Chevy has ensured thoughout the manufacturing process, way to go Chevy.....! Chevy engineering and manufacturing is cutting edge....

Lonnie is correct. We hone no motors w/out a deck plate...only way to ensure the bore is square.
