Exhaust ???
So, Thinking about changing out my exhaust. Nothing crazy, not a street racer, just looking to add a bit (BIT) of rumble. My 2010 SS A/T has had the resonator removed but is otherwise stock. Looking to swap out the mufflers for something a bit more throaty. But I don't want loud. Been looking at Magnaflow, and Flow Masters but there are so many choices. Just not sure which direction to go. Not wanting loud, just a bit deeper than the current setup. Currently if I rated the loudness on a scale of 1-10, 10 being uncapped headers, and 1 being bone stock, I think currently my car is a 3, but wouldn't want to go past 5. Always liked the (For lack of better terms) hollow sound of the Mustangs, so not sure which direction to go. Any advise or input is welcome. Thanks in advance.

I am a big fan of the sound of a Flowmaster, but I cannot recommend them to anyone that is not prepared to spend the extra money to eliminate the drone that in inevitable, especially if you do not go with a full tuned catback system. I adore the sound of my catless, X piped, Long Tubed Flowmaster Outlaws, but I have also grown used to the drone over time. I hear it is the same for the FM American Thunder/40 Series. Not many people would deal with it if they knew beforehand.
I have yet to hear a bad sounding Magnaflow and they are not famous for their drone. You are likely to get less volume, but some of them can produce some seriously deep quality tones. I would suggest you listen to as many samples as possible before you commit to anything. Also, don't limit yourself to just these 2 brands. There is a sea of quality systems out there for our cars. If I could do it all over again, I would just spend the money and would have gone with a Corsa Extreme or a Solo system.

Do a muffler delete. Check out some videos on YouTube. It's cheap and sounds pretty damn good and should give you the right amount of sound you are looking for....

Mines got a muffler delete too. still have the manifolds, cats and resonator. I’m happy with it for now until it gets cammed and headers. It’s definitely louder than stock and no drone.

Seriously, dont waste money for no gain. Get some long tubes and a tune. You wont regret it.

I second solo mach XL. Not too loud and no drone.
Don't do a muffler delete IMO. |

+1 more for Solo Mach XL catback. I've had mine for 5 years and LOVE it! Nice and calm to cruise in, but good old muscle car sound when you're into it or standing by it just listening. Best part about it, NO DRONE. Only after I added a cam and long tube headers did I get a little drone at a very focused frequency, but I've all but tuned that out now.

I have a 3 inch cat back with magnaflow American thunder mufflers. Sounds great at WOT. Quiet while cruising around town. I don't have the drone issue some complain about. Mine has an X pipe.

Install some electric cutouts, you can adjust for whatever sound you want by a flick of a switch,I can't wait to install the low profile electric cutouts I have. The cutouts I've got will install after the high flow cats before the "X" pipe. Some cutouts are even installed toward the rear near the back axle.Other cutouts even come in a band clamp installation which you cut out a section of pipe and install the cutout with stainless steel band clamps, save the cut out section, you can replace the cutouts if you sell your car.

I've wondered about those cutouts.
I assume they have to be placed after the cats otherwise codes will get thrown?

Solo performance cat back would be my recommendation for you. I’m a Flowmaster type of guy but it’s loud and you do get a drone. If you have the money I would also add Texas speed long tubes with high flow cats. The muffler shop can add buns for the rear o2 sensors so it doesn’t pop a code.

Another +1 for Solo Mach XL cat back. They also sale some HFCs if youre interested in those too. Sounds nice and mean, quiet on the hwy til you get down on it.
