best track only tire in 2024 for Z/28

hey folks,

just tapping into the vast pool of experience of this forum. I'm looking to buy a track-only tire for the Z/28 and I'm looking for recommendations.

there are few posts here and there in the forums but they are old and tire technology evolves over time.

Any good advice/experience?
My only "Recent" experience is for Nitto NT01 but it was on a different car (996 GT3) and they were excellent.

Probably an older tire but many former members had used these

305/30ZR-19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R

Surprised more folks haven't chimed in. You may want to meander over to Camaro6 and see what the folks are running on their SS 1LE and ZL1 1LE track cars. As mentioned the Goodyears seem to be held in high regard.
I too have had very good luck with the NT01s and have wondered how the Z would perform with them installed.

I really like the Goodyear Supercar 3R. I have used it for the past 3 years now on my Z. They are not an autocross tire though. I like the Falken RT660 for autocross and I here the Yokohama Advan is even better. This year, I am going to try the Continental Extreme Contact Force tires though. I am just curious on trying something new, and Trackdaytire offers them. My next choice is to step up to the Hoosier A7's. I know going slicks though is quite a learning curve. All in all, can't go wrong with the 3R, in my opinion. I have really gotten to know the tire and love it.

I already had the 3R in my cart ... looks like it is going to be a good choice.
I'm not going to use them for autocross, so no issue there.

I tried to find Nitto NT01 and the Nankang AR-1 but seems like they are hard to find.

I've gone through two sets of Goodyear Supercar 3R 305/30/19 TPC spec, I can really recommend them. Even when they are blistering after 5 trackdays, they can still put in a good lap.

Sorry for the late reply, but I posted on this thread linked below a while back and were just greeted with responses from RDOG saying it's not the OE tire for the Z28 and that the load index was incorrect.

Just don't use them in the wet!

I'll be trying the Pirelli Trofeo RS next, we're lucky as it is only available in Z28 sizes at the moment! There's been a good German review stating it's faster than the Cup 2 R, but more consistent beyond a few hot laps.

hi, thanks for all the replies... I've ordered the SC3R , I have read enough posts to convince myself that they are a decent choice, especially if we factor the (much) lower cost compared to other choices.
I've ordered them from tirerack with the optional 1st heating cycle (I won't be able to get the 1st cycle done in a proper way if I had to do it myself).

I know trofeo R (and RS) are much better but everyone is also telling me that the duration will be very much shorter, to the point that you might get 2 trackdays at most, out of them. Given the cost (550+ per tire), I'm not planning to try them.

Future options for me will be Nitto NT01 and Nankang AR-1. But let's first try the SC3R

Wise choice on the Goodyears. I'd say get the car sorted out with a known good tire and if you feel that you need a bit more later you can experiment. One thing about track tires is they don't have to be a long-term commitment, once they're done you can always switch brands and/or compounds.
