No Spare Tire?!?
So I find out that the car has no spare tire. I asked the dealer what to do in the event of a flat. The only thing they have is an inflator to seal a flat. Well not all flat tires are pin hole in size. What are you to do in the event of the side wall getting sliced or a blow out. You would think they would have made room for this instead of cramming a battery in the back of the car where the spare tire should be.

Call for road service through GM roadside or a company such as AAA. No big deal for me as I won't change my tire anyway. I believe you can purchase a spare tire, I read that in one of these threads.

Asked the Rep about a Spare option. You cant through the dealer, but who is going to want to use their entire trunk to place a full sized tire. They could have done something like the 3rd gens and place a small one with an auto inflattor. Road Service wont help you when you are in the middle of no where out in the country.

Its a sports coupe, not a family sedan or SUV. This is par for the course.
Spare tire = extra weight. The Camaro already has a bit too much weight for its own good, a spare tire is unnecessary. |

You can buy the spare (probably a space saver spare) for about $150. It use to be listed on the "Build Your Camaro" options page on Chevrolet's web site. I see it's gone now so you may have to pick this up as an aftermarket piece.

It won't fit if you have brembs btw. Only stock calipers work with the rim rider spare.

Weight is BS. Just because its a sports car doesnt mean they have to slack on safety precautions. The 3rd gen spare weights no more than 5 lbs. Less than the weight of the battery. It could have been done.

Problem is if your car is a SS a regular wheel wont fit over the brake calipers. It has to be a 20" like the other four.

I would suggest if you're that worried about it get some run flats. It's either that or RSA. Run flats will weigh a ton. RSA doesn't weigh anything. |

Ok then, if weight is BS, get some run flats.

Its not that I would worry about it too much, but I just find it odd that they chose to leave this out. The Vettes have the run flats from what the dealer says, you would think that they would have some sort of precautionary measure for the Camaro as well.

Here comes my jinx....
I've never ever had a flat.....! Edit...so if you need to purchase another rim to fit over the calipers...then you will obviously also need - some type of cheap spare to go on the rim.... - Jack - Lug wrench What are we talking here.....$200 plus or minus...all total? When you're prepared, Murphy doesn't strike. |

$150 compact spare option I chose to purchase. Not sure of rim size(maybe 18"). 1LT/RS so should be OK as far as brake clearance. Take pics when get it..

Corvettes don't allready have a weight problem. And, let's face it, they aren't exactly lacking of the power to pull. But some people don't use them on their Vettes.
