I was driving back from work tonight in the IROC on Hurontario in Mississauga. I had just passed Hurontario/Matheson when I saw on the right side of the road there was (what I believed) was a police cruiser with flashing lights. I was in the far left lane, so whatever, I kept going. Cars were also blocking me in the other 2 lanes, so I didn't think the officers saw me.

But of course, I look in the rearview and see flashing lights behind me. I pull over (a few lights down from Hurontario/Eglinton intersection), and a fellow gets out of the car and says he is from the Ministry of Environment, and just needs to see under the hood to make sure all my emissions equipment are hooked up. I popped the hood and he saw just about everything was stock, and gave me back my license and he complimented the clean IROC and said "Have a good night sir".

I asked him though, how come I never seen you guys before, especially around here...He told me that they are starting to crack down on cars that are driving without hooked up emissions, and that I'm going to see more of them around. He said they are mostly targetting fast cars with V8s, that are likely to have no muffler/cat/ or other things removed from the engine bay.

Just thought I'd let you know, these guys are on the hunt

Yea, and if you pull me over you'll get a nice view of my middle finger (nothing personal brother). This is silly. Maybe instead of targetting the stereotype "big V8s" maybe they should go around and look for the stupid minivans and civics I pass every day on the way to and from work that are belching blue smoke out the back!!!! Yet another waste of tax payer's money (probably Dalton's idea)

Tell them to move a couple provinces over to the oil sands! Bahaha!!!

Also, I'm pretty certain there's more modded 'ricer' street racing cars...

that's funny... 'cause slow minivans driving in front of me cause me to get poor gas mileage.

Wouldn't this be considered "profiling"? I thought that was unconstitutional and a violation of the Charter?

THAT was the word I was looking for. Thank you. I'll be remembering that for if and when they pull me over.

Yikes.....I hope they do not do that in Vancouver.

My '97 TA has been STRIPPED of environmental stuff. It passes air care but most everything has been removed.

My '80 vette was cleaner than some newer cars, it all comes down to maintenance.

Good post from Mike.
Know your provencial laws, keep your car legal, no problem. Police mostly likely checked out a few Mustangs as well.
I am from the US, a card carrying Canadian permanent resident, and imported two autos from the US. One did not have Day Light Running Lights but it passed inspection. A few years later I did install the day time running lights just because I thought I should (at great expense). A week later, here in Ottawa, traffic police had a road block writing tickets for non working Day Time Running Lights and people were pulled. Like I said, keep your car legal, no issue if you are pulled over.

Mufflers do nothing when it comes down to emissions. They do exactly what they are called. Muffle. Having no muffler won't get you a ticket.
I think most of those guys don't know what they are looking at anyway.

Partially correct. Nothing to do with emissions yes. But, the police can give out tickets for excessive noise. The friendlies in blue uniforms up at Belfountaine / FOTC each weekend aren't just enjoying the scenery and catching speeders. The residents up there complain mostly about the noise. (Yes, I'm lookin' at you Harley guys!) Of course I can't blame them. I wouldn't want someone like me ripping by at 6:30am with the cut-outs wide open Not that I ever do that..... or do I?
