Toyota Corolla & Matrix Recall

1.3 million in voluntary safety recall. When it rains it pours, and Toyota is getting out the rain coats.

I expected this thread to be about an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie for some reason.

You changed the title of the thread, and now my joke isn't funny (and yes, it WAS funny before).

Toyota is recalling 1.1 million Corolla and Matrix models for stalling. Once again, Toyota claims this is not a safety issue, despite 3 accidents so far blamed for this, although that has not been independently confirmed to be related to this issue.

Toyota has claimed that steering, stalling, braking, and accelerating are not related to safety in a car. I'm pretty sure that encompasses almost the entire driving experience, so I don't know what would be a safety issue if none of those affect safety.

How many Toyotas have been recalled now? I lost count hundreds of thousands of cars ago.

Autoblog reported. Discuss.

It wont, because alot of people are braindead morons and still believe that Toyota is the top in quality and reliability.

Alot of people truly think that this is all a conspiracy to bring down Toyota, but then again these are also the same type of people that chase Bigfoot and freeze their asses off in Locke Ness looking for a "monster".

I assume GM will be recalling the '05-'08 Pontiac Vibes, as well...

Funny, how come it's Toyota that finds these "problems" and not GM?

Because GM doesnt have a brainwashed population of people who feels that they are the most reliable machines of all history..

Yet.

Right now Toyota has a bleeding wound..and the media is making a story out of it. The only thing people love more than a hero is to see one fail, fall and die trying.

All well and good, but GM only seems to recall the Vibe after Toyota issues a recall for the Matrix...

Is anyone at GM looking into their own issues, or have they abrogated their responsibility to Toyota?

They're not. Toyota has issued the recall of ~200k Pontiac Vibes. That is probably included in the 1.3M figure.

Makes perfect sense since the cars are Toyotas and there are 5x as many Toyota Corollas and Matrixs (Matracies?) than there are Vibes.

It's seriously hard to buy that argument.

It is a widespread fallacy that skillful advertising can talk the consumers into buying everything that the advertiser wants them to buy. The consumer is, according to this legend, simply defenseless against high-pressure advertising. If this were true, success or failure in business would depend on the mode of advertising only.

Toyota designed/engineered the Vibe. Therefore it only makes sense that Toyota would be the one to issue the recall.
