In a class by itself?

Hello all. Just signed up to the forum and wanted to say a quick hello and a quick thanks to all who have contributed to the site. That being said...Here are my questions.

I have started giving the new Camaro serious consideration as a new car in the next year or so, but I (as well as you) only have rough data on the SS. I have seen more on the V6 than the V8, but I think info will continue to stream out as the debut gets closer. I have been trying to find a car to compare against the new SS. There are not alot of 400ish horsepower 2 doors that will seat 4 people in this price range. I have given thoughts about cars like the EVO X and STI, but these are 4 doors. I have thought about cars like the new 370Z, but that is a 2 seater and I am not sure it is fair to compare a 3200lb 2 seater with a 3800lb four seater. The direct competition (I guess) is the Mustang and the Challenger. From what I understand the Mustang doesn't handle well from the factory although aftermarket has done a lot to help, but the car is really limited by the solid rear axle. From a look at the Challenger numbers, it handles even worse. When I talk handling, I am mostly focused on lateral G, and slalom speed. I think the Camaro will have much better numbers than either of these cars, but I again have seen no hard numbers yet. So... If you care about turning at all, the Camaro might be the only option among the "Muscle Cars".

Question 1. What cars do you consider a comptetitor for the V6. What cars match up against the V8.

Question 2. With this Camaro seeming to have a more well rounded set of capabilities how do you feel about it being called by some as a "meer" Muscle Car?

Just starting my reaserch, so if information in not correct..Sorry. Hang in there everyone the Camaro will be here soon.

Item for item and power to weight ratio and # of seats the Accord Coupe is the nearest comparison for a v6.

The V8 would possibly be a good comparison with BMW M3 performance wise...possssibly.

What is amazing about this is, not just in the power department either. The Pontiac G8 GXP I have read somewhere (I think it was in a magazine) should come in around .95 lateral g's. Now subtract 200 - 300lbs.

Welcome to the Site Brian!!
