Buy Camaro 100001 (#1)
Just got an email from Scott.
Good Evening Camaro comrades, Firebird Friends, and Corvette Cousins! BUY CAMARO #1 AT BARRETT-JACKSON - JANUARY 17, 2009 You Don't Need to Be Present to Bid One very passionate Camaro enthusiast at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction will come away with the keys to the first regular retail production-built unit of Chevyıs all-new, 21st Century Sports Car. This first Camaro built for regular retail production will have a VIN ending with 100001*. Chevrolet ceased production of the fourth-generation of their vaunted sportscar in 2002. Four years later, Camaro appeared as a surprise concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new production Camaro remains steadfastly true to that concept, with an eye-catching design reminiscent of the storied 1969 Camaro, but equipped with modern technology and a GM-estimated 27 MPG** highway when equipped with the available V6 engine. Importantly, the winning bidder will have the ability to spec and order their Camaro to their liking, choosing from several colors, V6 or V8 engines, a manual or automatic transmission, and various trim packages and free-flow options. The vehicle will be built on the first day of retail production -- scheduled for early 2009.*** All net proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Heart Association, a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke." The association's impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010. Please join GM, Chevrolet, Barrett-Jackson and the American Heart Association in pursuit of this very worthwhile effort, and be the first to own Chevyıs 21st Century Sports Car, the 2010 Chevy Camaro. REGISTER NOW AT WWW.BARRETT-JACKSON.COM TO BE ABLE TO BID ON AUCTION DAY. *Prior to retail production, GM will produce its fleet of engineering and test Camaros. ** Based on GM testing. Official EPA estimates not yet available. ***Vehicle will be delivered through an authorized Chevrolet dealer. Winning bidder responsible for taxes, title, license and registration fees.

Are you kidding? They will just give Leno the car, for advertisement! Then I will be able to say that I have the same Hot Rod as Leno.

As usual, that super rich Ron Pratt guy is probably gonna get away with it like he does everything else. Jay Leno doesn't hold a candle to that guy.

Hello!
|
Way, way, way out of my price range...I'll be more than happy to pay MSRP (or in my case a little under)...but no way can I afford it at this auction!
Actually...I could not afford any car at this auction...the prices they get for cars is unreal! |

So, if the ZR1 got a Cool Million, do ya think the Camaro can fetch $400k-$500K?
I'd guess about $250K-$300K.

You've seen em'! With some of the lots, they almost guilt trip you into bidding more, it's really pathetic if you ask me. Back when I was in the collector car market for a Trans Am, Barrett Jackson was my worst nightmare since I was always afraid some rich pot-bellied wad would bid an outrageous amount for a late second-gen T/A and raise the prices on them. And low and behold, just last year a 1980, yes, you heard me, 1980 Special Edition (black & gold) went for $63,000 on BJ. A $30,000 car (in TOP condition, mind you) went for more than double its worth. Needless to say, I was quite depressed but I still ended up with a '78.

i do agree: the BJ auction is ridiculous. i know it's all for charity & all, but it really makes it hard on people wanting awesome collectors and can't afford more than they're worth.

It's nice that Scott is announcing it, but there's definitely a discussion about this around here already.

Same here, only it was a '79 - and she ran over my foot one day while I was helping her maneuver it to park into our small garage. ![]() I didn't care. A bruised foot was a small price to pay to ride in a new, cherry '79 Trans Am. Even though it wasn't powerful by todays' standards, it "had some giddy-up" for sure! ![]() Never got to drive it (I was only about 12-13 yrs old) -- but hey, at least I got to own and drive an all-original 400 76 T/A about 8 yrs later. (Oh, and yes - I hate the fact that almost all cars are overbid by about 30-60% on the dang-old bare-jack auctions. )
