your thoughts on 19" wheels

I will be looking into rims very soon just after I finish the rest of my bolt on mods. I am looking for wheels that "perform" not just for looks. I know that reduced weight is better because of rotational mass and all that... since I will be lowering the car I think a set of lightweight 19" wheels will look just as good as 20"s my question is does anyone have a set on there car now that I can see, are the tires more expensive and less options? I just think 19 is a odd size?? any thoughts would be appreciated.. thanks.

I think 19s are the best. Better ride quality and still good looks.

I run 19" ccw's for the street, and 18" for the track.
here are some pic's of the 19's..

You will drop at least 50 lbs going with 19's - be lower as the tire profile is slightly smaller, better grip as they will be wider, and gain with gearing difference.

All around win. I love my car with the 19's. My 18's are only good for track use - they are too aggressive for the street.

Do you have apic of your 18" track tires?? I am looking for 18" track tires for next year's road track season.

Thanks.

19s are an industry oddball size when it comes to tire selection. 18s have a far greater availability of brands/widths/compounds. I have confirmed that Forgestar F14 wheels in 18x9 and 18x11 fit these Camaros, as long as you do not have the "roller skate" brake pad weights. If you have those, you'll need to swap the brake pads out for aftermarket pads first. You can also run a shorter tire to improve your overall effective gearing, but at the negative of putting more 'miles' on your odometer in the process. I do not know of anyone custom tuning the odometer on these cars. Shorter tire fools the computer into thinking you are traveling further than you really are.

18 will offer a wider variety of tire. Tire manufacturers make a whole lot more ultra high performance tires for 19 than they do for 20. That's one of the reasons I might go with a 19. Going down to 18 seems like it sacrifices too much in the looks department. (There are some 19 in tires that still have a similar diameter to our 20 in tires, but when you get down to 18s, they're at least 2 inches shorter.)
19 in benefits: you get weight savings, good selection of tires, and it will still fill the wheel well.
18 in benefits: A shorter tire that fits an 18 in rim will give you a quicker accelerating effective rear end gear ratio, and an even more extensive selection of tires.
