It would be false advertising if they did. Unfortunately, after 47 years of the Mustang improvements, Liter for liter, they beat us hands down. Technically, they've only been competing for 44 years since the Mustang debuted in 1964 and the Chevy didn't respond until 1967. Only 37 years of head to head competition with the Camaro, since the Camaro didn't exist from 2003 to 2009.

A liter-per-liter comparison isn't of any value.

If two engines make the same hp, but one has more torque, the engine making more torque will always be faster.

Enter the LS1 Camaro. When that engine went into the Camaro Z/SS from 1998-2002, it was game over for the Stang. It dominated the speed/hp wars throughout it's 5 year lifespan.

Ford responded with a supercharged SVT, but the Camaro had already ceased production. The history books had already been written.

Ford lost the pony car wars to the LS-1 Camaros.

Even if the LS-1 F-bodies had continued production, the high end supercharged SVT cost a lot more than the SS. And the base GT Stang was still wayyyy underpowered compared to the base Z-28.

I know that what I am about to type is going to be a completely futile post, but I will do it anyway.

Why do people feel it necessary to start threads like this again and again? Why must it always be a war or a competition? Do you not realize that if it weren't for the Mustang we may have never had the Camaro? And I would argue that we certainly wouldn't have the 5th gen were it not for the Mustang's continued success through the 2000s. I would go further to say that if it weren't for the GT500 we wouldn't be seeing spy shots of the Z28 and hearing of its pending realize.

I am just growing weary of the bashing and idiotic comments. Show a little respect for a car with a long heritage and which can probably be credited with single-handedly starting the muscle car craze.

Its a joke you a-holes. Stop taking it to heart and laugh about it. We don't need a chronological history.

nice find!

Trust me. It might start as a joke, but quickly turns into a battle.

Hek, even the LT1 Camaros were spanking Mustangs. Even though the Camaro ended in 2002, those LS1's were continuing to spank Mustang up until the new 5.0.

So, If I understand the poster correctly, you are saying that a Camaro can beat a 40 year-old Mustang? Sounds about right......
