Thumbs up GMAC Resumes Car Loans To Customers With Lower Credit

good news (i guess?)

Crappy credit? Still want a GM product? That's no longer a problem. Thanks to yesterday's $6 billion bailout, GMAC plans to expand credit criteria from a minimum 700 FICO score to 621 or above.

It may not do anything for the guy with the 621 score, but at least it will allow GMAC to compete with banks. Yeah, good news.

I guess they gotta sell cars to stay in business, and I guess people need loans to buy cars but.....

<rant>

Don't buy something you can't afford. That's the problem with this country. Look, Bob next door got a new car, we gotta have one too! Never mind we can't make the interest payments on our credit cards as it is!

As part owner of GM and now GMAC (read US Tax Payer) I feel we should be given something in return, how about ZERO PERCENT financing??

GM, GMAC ease lending rules to entice car buyers

Here ya go!

Quote:
Through January 5, GM will offer zero percent to 4.9 percent financing on loans of up to five years on some 2008 model-year vehicles, and 3.9 to 5.9 percent on some 2009 vehicles.

GMAC, meanwhile, will extend loans to retail buyers with credit scores, known as FICO, of 621 or higher. In October, it had restricted loans to borrowers with scores of 700 or higher.

Many analysts consider borrowers with credit scores of 620 or lower to be "subprime." The median U.S. credit score is 723, according to Fair Isaac Corp's myFICO unit.

Yes, I reached a little bit.

The real news is GMAC can resume making loans at a reasonable rate, rather than GM dying because they cannot finance their own cars.

For example, now I've got the itch to go buy a G8 GT TODAY, again.
