Pearl Illusion - can you force a base color?

Any of you paint experts out there? I'm going to be painting my Camaro when I get it (or at least putting some heavy clear over the white) and wondered if with the pearl illusion paint can be applied over a different color than black to force a base preferred color (say you want pearl stripes that appear red mostly but will change color with the light mostly in the red/orange spectrum?

Alternatively, over a white/red car, is there a pearl clearcoat that would accomplish something similar to my end goal of subtle color change but maintaining the baseline straight on or under clouds?

Thanks for any helpful input!

Yes, if you properly prep the paint surface you are going to apply it over. BUT the results will be unknown until you spray it. Find a sample panel from a wreck and try sections w/different tinted top coats to see the results first IMHO.

Pics are promised, not sure if I'm going to do anything like this, kinda up to the paint shop (aka. price and willingness to experiment)

It should be fun!

Thanks! I'll run it by whatever paint shop gets the business. Currently I like one but haven't done the BBB/web sanity check yet. I'm in the Tacoma, WA area so the weather is always a factor in the look.
