what kind of music do you listen to? if you want loud a ported box is your best bet. if you want tight sounding bass sealed box.

IMO you will have better results having a box built to spec of then sub than the pre-built ********. nothing against them, but they are not built to subs exact specs.

go ported or go home. i had sealed for a while and HATED it. go with 2 ported 10's before you go with 2 sealed 12's. on the other hand, if you can find a 2 12's ported box then definitely do that.

There is a huge difference between loud and tight.

Tighter is a better, more quality sound, whereas louder is looser and may seem better but it is not.

Look at RMS ratings for the amp- that is what it is continuously putting out, do not worry about peak.
Also remember, in watts when dealing with sound, the expansion is geometric, not linear.
This is a nerd way of saying that 100 watts is not twice as powerful as 50 watts.
1000 watts is twice as powerful as 100 watts.

Don't forget to Dyanamat the back of the license plate

thats why i asked the type of music. if your a rock/country person IMO sealed is the way to go to get the tight kicks and hits of the drums. Rap/hip hop ported is good to go.

OP you have a good budget for subs and an amp. like he said match your RMS of the amp with the RMS of the subs.

you would be surprised as to how things sound. i have had a $250 sub/amp combo before and no one would believe me what i had because i had it set up correctly (box size, wattage)

One of the best systems I ever heard was actually 8 8" subs, each running at 200 RMS.
It didn't thunder from 3 blocks away, it wasn't even that loud, but OMG it was so tight and crisp.
But I am describing a competition showcar with close to $20000 into just the system.

If you plan on completely dynamating the trunk and car, 100sf won't cut it. I have a little over 60sf just in my trunk. I understand everyone does it differently. 60+sf gave me 100% coverage in the trunk...That's covering everything. I'll be running 2 JL Audio 10w7's in sealed enclosures powered with a JL HD1200.
