Header wrap

I’m getting so many different opinions on header wrapping. While some say it’s a great way of keeping the temps down, others will say the moisture they trap will rust your headers. I’m considering having it done around the primary tubes but not past the collectors. Anyone here have any experience in header wrap? Good or bad.

IMO, header wrap is only useful in engine compartments that are cramped and where the heat will become an issue. In the Camaro, I don't see this being the case nor an issue so imo it's not needed.

Maybe one of our vendors who mod cars often will come in here and say a word or two.

Mine are ceramic coated as well. However, I did two small areas of wrap directly abeam the starter on passenger side and abeam the oil cooler on driver side. Perhaps a little overkill but easy to do when headers are off the car. I read the link above from Maryland Speed and concur with most of what it says. However, we are not running NASCAR sustained 8,500 RPM and sustained high temp's referred to in the article. Just my 2 cents.

In addition to keeping temps down, another benefit is wrapping also helps the header scavenge exhaust gases.

Here's another option from Thermo Tech if you don't feel like wrapping the entire header.

Quote:
Thermo Tec's High Velocity Exhaust Jacket kits are a quick and easy way to effectively increase exhaust gas velocity. Higher velocity exhaust gases will evacuate the exhaust system faster, allowing for improved performance. The jackets snap into place around the runners of your header and not only help to retain heat in the tubes (which increases exhaust gas velocity), but they also help to reduce radiant heat from being transmitted to the rest of your engine bay. The jackets will not over-insulate a system when properly installed due to Thermo Tec's Thermal Conduction Technology (TCT), which conducts heat evenly across the jacket's surface

I dont sell header coatings or anything else for that matter... I think wrapping is a great way to keep down temps and wont break the bank. I have always used them. I dont have headers on my camaro, but I do on my 66 Chevelle and if/when I get em, I will wrap em.

Also, there are a lot of exhaust manufactuers who will not warranty wrapped headers. Most will warranty coated headers.

Now why wrap coated headers? This seems like overkill.

Wrapping headers on this car seems silly to me...
