Question about keyed power

I have a question about keyed power.
In the fuse panel on the drivers side dash I need to find a keyed 12v.
Question being.. Can I get the keyed power from the fuse side of the panel with a tap fuse, or do I need to TAP into tha actual wire on the other side of the fuse panel?

I'm installing a boost guage in the pillar.

Also what fuse/wire would you tap into?

Thanks, Stratman

Lets assume you have a 2010 model. Go to page 9-45. you will see a pic of the fuse block that is inside the car, just take off the cover on the left side of the dash.

FUSES 17 & 18 are both KEYED, so that the only time they get power in when the car is on. I did this for power for my radar detector as did a lot of folks.

get a FUSE TAP from Radio Shack

connect the power wire to your gauge using a connector like this

I connected mine on Fuse 17....but either will do....

and don't forget the GROUND, there is a screw right above the fuse box that works like a champ for that.

Look here: apparently you not only need switched power, you need it during crank.

Do not use those style fuse taps,, all they do is wreck you fuse block,, they spread the teminals too far in the fuse block and damage the terminals

use the fuse adders that have their own pig-tail on them,, i get them from our local bumper to bumper store,, they plug into your fuse block and have an added fuse and pigtail for your accessory and they dont wreck the terminals because they are the same dimension as a stock fuse(terminal wise)

That's exactly what I bought.
