On several occasions I've had people, who seem not to be utter morons, tell me that having a fast car is illegal. And ask me how I conceal the modified engine from the police?

Have any of you had a similar conversation?

"You should just crush your car, it's not compliant with the federal emmission laws and no one is going to buy it if you try to sell it. If you keep driving it like that, the cops will eventually catch you and crush it themselves...."

or

"Can you please shut off your car so I can walk by? I don't want to get cancer from smelling your car fumes"

This is from two different people commenting on my completely stock car........
