Home/Computer Audio Question

Hey guys, I was curious if it is safe to plug in a set of independent amplified speakers into a device that sends an amplified signal to the speakers? If you need any further explanation I'll try draw up a diagram or whatever. But basically it is plugging in some new 2.0 amplified speakers into an old 5.1 computer speaker's sub (which has the built in amplifier and split to the individual speakers)

It really depends on the speakers.

Some speakers that are amplified will detect a powered connection and work fine. Others, not so much.

I guess I'm curious if there are any actual damaging things that can happen? Like blowing the speakers or something like too much juice that will start a fire or something lol...

If you're plugging a high level output into a low level input, you'll have two problems: the output of the speakers will be way out of sync (too loud at low volume setting) and you might have background noise or whine from the speakers.

If you want to keep the same equipment unmodified, you could use a line output converter to bring the subs speaker outputs back down to low level
