Overnight rotor rust
Down here in Phoenix we actually had a rare full day of sustained rain. Nothing out control mind you, but a full day of rain. When I walked out to my Camaro this morning and took the cover off I noticed A LOT of surface oxidation on all four rotors. Now I know surface oxidation on rotors is normal and it goes away once you drive because of the friction but this seemed like way more than I've seen in previous vehicles. I think its probably a combination of the wheels being 20 inches and the rotors being as large as they are. Anyone else in wetter climates who park outdoors see anything similar? I know this is a cosmetic thing but still bugs the hell out of me. I took before and after photos and attached them.

You seriously asking this? It happens to EVERYONE. Rotors are bare steel, of course they rust. It will come off as soon as you drive. Actually, thats not a lot of rust at all. Mine will get a FULL coating of surface rust after I wash it. (it never sees rain)
No worries, you are A-OK!

Due to a high(er) carbon content of the metal.
High carbon steel can be heat treated and tempered into increased toughness, but the trade-off is increased susceptibility to oxidation (rusting) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_steel |

Haha nice, I wonder if that would actually catch on fire if the brakes were applied hard enough. I had a bad run with cosmetic issues with my Camaro ever since I moved out my house such as $2,600 dollars hail damage and an egg attack. I hate having the Camaro out of a garage and even more so in an appartment complex with everyone else's POS rides and overgrown trees. I got the cover but nothing will ever replace the peace of mind of a garage...
