Cool ZL1 Constructive* Criticism Thread

Since its been repeatedly mentioned that the ZL1 is still under development, and that the Camaro team is paying close attention to its fanbase, I figure this could be a thread giving GM a reflection of our sentiment.

Personally I was surprised despite seeing all the spy-shots and stuff, but its growing on me and I really like how GM is going in a different direction regarding the styling

I think the fascia needs work though. I'd like to see something more like the Leno fascia the DRL/foglight combo we see here is pretty silly IMO.

I'd also like to see functional brake vents up front in the fascia (I thought they would be where the lights are on the bottom corners) and in the rear (not a big fan of the fake gills, especially on something like this).

Not a big fan of the steering wheel either the bowtie doesn't belong there. I hope we can get something neat like you get in a C63 AMG.

And I think the car deserves a touchscreen navigation. I know, there is nav. on the HUD with Onstar -__- but please if they can put one in the Cruze they can put it in this.

Overall I like it I'll reserve final judgment for when I see the car production spec in person

There are functional brake vents up front. They are located in the lower grille opening towards the edges closest to the fog lights.

I wouldn't mind seeing brake ducts for the rear as well, but I don't know that's nearly as necessary as the ducts for the front are. In road racing, the majority of the braking is done by the fronts and thus they need the cooling a lot more.

I would love to see some LED style fog lights exactly like they were on the Leno front fascia as well. I'm not a big fan of having two sets of fog lights where one set is for DRL and the other being for actual use as fog lights. Just seems like too much is going on there.

My suggestion for the future would be the active headlights, where the projector actually swivels left and right in tandem with the steering. Maybe even up and down depending on the incline of the road you're driving on. I imagine the kind of design and testing required for this, though, would be pretty extensive.

I really like the back-up camera. But why have the back-up sensors if you've got the camera? I think that should be an either/or kind of setup. The back up sensors are just so darn ugly in the rear fascia.

I'm glad they made the suede an optional interior choice. I wouldn't mind having the suede on the dash and trim, but I definately would not want it on my steering wheel, gear shifter, or seats. I've seen what suede looks like in a car after a few years of daily driving. Let me just say, it doesn't look pretty.

I don't know if anyone has said yet, but is the center stripe a gloss black or a matte black? Is there an option to have the carbon fiber insert left unpainted? I would love to get a black one with the carbon fiber parts left unpainted That would look absolutely killer

Overall, I really like the look of the car.

Ok I'll jump in.

1) I would have preferred the SSX wheels (in forged aluminum)

2) Really think the center stacks needs to be redesigned to accomodate a nav/hdd radio.

3) Wish the the option for contrasting insert's for the seats existed

4) Wish the Recro seats were offered as an option (with above contrasting inserts)

5) Would have liked to see the spoiler from the Dale Jr. concept used.

Other than that I am pretty excited about this car. Optional LS9 would not hurt my feelings at all! (wallet yes, feelings no)

Great thread! Let's keep it civil, like it has been

* I love everything about the front facia. I think the DRLs are a little much, though. Why not use the fog lights for the DRLs? It looks a little busy. I could see myself replacing them for some driving lights or something.

* Finish the ABL across the dashboard. I really love the suede treatment and the completion of the ABL would just add frosting.

* SSX forged wheels instead. I DO like "ZL1" cast into these existing ones. I just like the SSX wheels better. This is nothing even close to a deal-breaker though.

* Something a little more aggressive with the rear lower facia. It's kinda' plain. I don't know if that would affect aerodynamics; if so, then never mind.

* Get the same PS2s that ZR1 and CTS-V has.

* Privacy glass. As much as I think the new interior is gorgeous to look at, I don't want to share it, lol. I can add tint, but I'd prefer privacy glass

I don't know that much more about the car to really add. I really LOVE everything I saw yesterday. I think the styling, inside and out aggressive without being overboard. I was affraid the spoiler would get all ricey, but it didn't. I think there's enough to distinguish ZL1 from SS.

JMVHO.

It's a good package (without knowing the weight, performance or price) but the lower fog lights look shockingly terrible. Looks exactly like the temp headlights in the pilot cars. You are capable of much better than that GM Design!

I like radz28's ideas about the rear lower fascia and finished ABL across the dash as well.

While I like the SSX wheels also, I really like the wheels they showed on this pre-production. Maybe have an option for either variety?

I'd like to have a ZL1 convertible option available as long as the design is structurally sound (just as the SS convertible appears to be), can handle the LSA's torque, and doesn't add excessive weight.

Also, I'd really like to have a choice of ZL1 interior colors other than black. I currently own two Corvettes, and two Camaros, and they all have black interiors. I'm ready to own a Chevrolet with an interior color other than black.

First thing is get rid of the little microscopic ZL1 emblem in the nose and put a ZL1 where the bowtie is, and offer an automatic with the LS3 engine, also options for rear end gears would be great.

I like the new interior somewhat. I like that you will be able to pick between the suede and non suede fitted surfaces. I feel that suede on the steering wheel will be an issue after a few thousand miles, suede collects alot of stuff and is can be hard to clean. The suede does add a distinctive touch to the dash. I personally done like the steering wheel myself and think that intead of the bowtie it should say ZL1 or Camaro on it. As far as the rest of the car goes, perfect LSA magnetic suspension HUGE tires

Why would you want an automatic LS3 in the car? Unless you meant to say Auto LSA. rear gear options, aftermarket has you covered. Personally I am thrilled they went with the 3.73!

If you read the info released the "suede" is actually microfiber which cleans much easier, but I am with you, I would not like it on things you touch constantly to have to be cleaned. For that matter, I would not want it anywhere to catch dust & need cleaning, but it is optional.
