Burnt Plastic Smell

Yesterday I started to get a burnt plastic smell from the air vents after I drive for about 10 mins or more. Also noticed that my clutch wasn't grabbing as hard either. It doesn't chirp second gear anymore. Have about 2400 miles on my car right now. What do you guys think is wrong with my car?

Did you glaze the clutch?

I think it needs to go in for service.

chirp second? uhhhhhh......
typically when someone refers to a car chirping second it is because they have a stall converter in an automatic....

Had this problem in one of my old cars. Turns out that it was a plastic shopping bag that melted to the exhaust underneath.

Worth a quick check and you can scrape as much off as you can, but the rest will have to burn off.

Oh boy I glazed my clutch big time when I first got my car learning to back it out of my steep driveway in reverse. It got stinky and lasted a couple of days.

Clutch glazing is a condition arising from superheating the clutch from friction forces due to abuse/excessive "riding" the clutch. You can clean the clutch plate, or just live with it.

Take it easy on that clutch. There is no need to ride it!

I noticed a "plastic burning smell" on my car tonight.
I came home, did a search, and came to this thread.
After reading, I went out and looked under my car.
There it was...

A plastic bag (or whats left of it) melted to my Borla.
Problem solved

A lot of times its some of the stickers melting off. Look under your car, there are literally hundreds of manufacturing labels on these things. I smelled burning plastic as well when backing out of the driveway and that's when I found the two stickers on the exhaust that looked half burned up.

Probably just some clutch glazing - these cars seem to be a little prone to it. Probably due to less 'feel' due to the pedal return spring. Give it a couple of days - if the smell doesn't go away or you feel any slipping you probably want to take it in.

I noticed one of those stickers half dangling off the other day when I washed it. Was a little surprised it hadn't started to burn off...
