I have a ?
Dos the number of 12,000 cars pr ordered not work for you that seams to low if gm has 4000 Chevrolet dealers that is only 3 cars ordered per dealer, avg
3,000 dealers X 4 cars =12,000 2,000 dealers X 6 cars =12,000 Is it more likely all the dealers did not put the pr ordered cars in GM work book at this time. ? |

And I believe as of today there are about 6000 Chevrolet dealers bringing that number down to 2 per dealer

Apparently there are 6000 GM dealers. Not all are Chevrolet. It was reported here some weeks ago that 30 to 35 % of dealers did not place any pre orders for 2010 CAMARO.

According to the GM restructuring plan submitted to the government today, GM states that there is 720 Chevy dealerships and 4210 GM multi-line dealerships in 2008. I take "multi-line" dealerships as being dealers that carry more than one GM brand, but since most of those multi-line dealers are in rural areas (2733 of them), they are most likely low volume home town dealers with very little allocation.
So maybe there are 2000 or so large Chevy dealers with more than one or two allocations. Add the fact that some dealers have refused to take pre-orders and the number seems good. So GM has to make 16K Camaro's (pre-orders & dealer demo cars) before they start making cars for dealers stock, given the plan for 100k annual cars and there is only 2/3 of the year left (100k *.667) that puts this years capacity near 67k Camaros before '10, so maybe it will take 2 1/2 months to build the 16k Camaro's..... Hopefully.

If the 100k is per model year, then my numbers are totally off. But I understood that to be calender year.
Also, a few GM workers at the plant where Camaro is being made have posted that the plant can easily build 400 cars a day (20day * 400 cars/day = 8000cars/month). So maybe my numbers wont be soo far off. Assume GM does not build dealer stock cars before the pre-orders. Either way I am prepared to wait.

That 100,000 production goal was from plans in place last summer. Today GM announced new expectations for total units built at being off 40% from last 2 years. Does this mean only 60,000 CAMARO's over 18 months?

Total North American units built is projected to be reduced by up to 40 % as per Wagoner at today's press conference. GM also projecting reduction and DOWN sizing to match the new reality. Since last summers projections for model year 2010 were based on an Industry that had not yet collapsed, does this mean new projections for total model build , to match the new economy.? IE 60,000.

Well, using the logic of expecting sales to be down 40% from 2 years ago means they won't sell any Camaros: 0x(1-0.4)=0, not 60 000. Also, truck sales have taken a harder hit than cars have, and new models like the Malibu have done significantly better than the industry average.
The Camaro is the exception to most of whats going on with GM right now. They kept making test cars (to the best of my knowledge) in January when everything else was shut down
