getting tired of the pay ncaa athletes argument
it seems every time a player tells the public they got paid in college people say the players should just get paid. it makes me sick as a college student who pays for all my tuition books and housing plus everything else that comes with living away from home in school and i also play rugby which is a club sport where we play in the most competitive division in college with no scholarships and i pay out of pocket to participate in. the athletes in the ncaa do already get paid they get all or most of what i and my family are paying for free. it is just ridiculous. most out of state tuition to public major universities that make money off an ncaa sanctioned sport cost upwards of 40k a year for just school! how is that not getting paid to play?

You are correct in many aspects.
College / higher ed is a business, don't let anybody tell you any different. With that perspective, what makes money? Well, the NCAA figured out one way to do it and a whole lot of money gets put into "it". You picked a sport not carried by them. Life isn't fair......, carry on.

Maybe if you played REAL football, you'd get a free ride, too.....
OK, just kidding! Just remember, paying for everything yourself will make things easier later on. Trust me. Don't ever get the entitlement mentality most of these pampered college sport jocks get. A lot of them might get a free education, but some, not all, would be hard pressed to pretend to know how to use it and many fade away into obscurity when the lights go off. Hang in there. Life's tough, and not always fair.

im not mad about not getting money for school for playing at all. its the notion that these "student-athletes" are being treated unfair because someone is profiting off their contributions to the school. it did seem like i was complaining about it but seriously i dont care. if i had the chance to get a free education to play an ncaa sport i would gladly take it. the problem lies with the players going to school for free and not getting a free education. and the people like spike lee saying just pay them. they already get paid. if you dont think a free college education is not enough then dont play dont sign the contract that says ill play for your school for education.

I love how ESPN is portraying these altheletes as victims right now too. I just watched the Fab Five movie and all it was a sob story about how those guys were being used to market products for the NCAA and Michigan. If anything they should open professional drafts like they do in the MLB to everyone 18 or older so they can get a pro contract if they can. That way you'll take the small percentage of these people out college who want to get paid in addition to a scholarship and just do away with completely. That being said most pro leagues won't do this because they don't want to pay inexperienced athletes and devlop them at the same time, the NBA being a perfect example. Maybe another option is not give altheltic scholarships out any more and pay the athletes based on what they bring to the team. Either way college sports is got itself into one hell of a mess with corruption and something needs to change.

How about any and all collegiate athletes that sign a big money contract paying back every dime of their tuition so that others may benefit, and not just other athletes...being drafted does not mean big money, but making the show does, or being a bonus baby...it's a first big step into financial liability and responsibility...
